Sustainable water management is crucial for providing tomorrow’s children with social and economic stability in a healthy environment.
As the worldwide leader in bottled water, Nestlé Waters has unchallenged expertise in water resource conservation. Given that expertise, Nestlé Waters consider it part of its social responsibility to share this knowledge and contribute to raising awareness and changing people’s water use behavior.
Thus, Nestlé Waters considers education a crucial answer to a crucial water crisis.
What is Project WET?
Project WET (Water Education for Teachers) is an independent non-governmental Foundation based in the US. Project WET was created by Dennis L. Nelson who remains the CEO of that organization today.
Established in 1984, the mission of the Project WET Foundation is to reach out to children, parents, educators and communities of the World with water education.
Project WET’s teaching expertise is based on its capacity to transform often complex concepts about water into easy-to-understand, fun learning for children. The pedagogical approach of Project WET is not only soundly science-based, but also promotes hands-on experiences and interactive games: you can learn and have fun at the same time! Project WET regularly receives recognition and awards for its high quality teaching approach.
With 25 years of experience, Project WET has become a prominent organization at the crossroads of 2 core areas of development: water and education. In these 25 years, Project WET has expanded to operate in over 50 countries on 5 continents and teach millions of children each year, making it unquestionably the leading organization worldwide dealing with water education of children and young adults through school and community educators.
Thus, Project WET has ratified strategic partnerships with international organizations such as UNESCO (especially in Latin America), US Aid (focusing on Africa), the World Meteorological Organization and the World Water Council… and Nestlé Waters has been the main private sponsor of Project WET Foundation for over 15 years.
Nestlé Waters & Project WET
Nestlé Waters supports project WET since 1992 and this support is based on the belief that educating young people today is probably the most efficient way to enable them with a life-long commitment for water conservation.
Thanks partly to this active and on-going support (the first partnership dates back to 1992), project WET is today recognized as the worldwide leading organization for water education.
Since 2005, a dozen of additional Nestlé Water subsidiaries have been leading the localization, implementation and distribution of Project WET educational materials in their respective countries.
Case study: China
In 2010, Project WET programme has been launched in 18 primary schools in Shanghai. These schools adopted eight, Project WET activities as part of the classroom curriculum. Five training courses and workshops for teachers were held, and over the course of the year 45 training courses reached out to nearly 20, 000 students. A further 10 schools will be added in 2011.
