The 6th World Water Forum will be held in Marseille (France) from 12 to 17, March 2012. During this time, many initiatives invite the citizens to engage themselves, in one way or another, in understanding water issues around the world.
The World Water Forum is a major event which gathers public decision makers, professionals and association around what's often called "the blue gold". For its 6th edition, the forum chose Marseille. There, 30 000 people from all over the world will try to address water access issues. That is a pretty hard challenge! The participants will only have a few days to find a solution to the various problems in terms of access to drinking water for everyone.
The project WET, committed to the Forum
Every year, on
March 22th, World Water Day is a tribute to water. Unlike the World Water Forum, the World Water Day is mainly addressed to the general public.
Every year, the project WET (Water Education for Teacher) organizes workshops about water, to raise the awareness of the youths on its protection. For this international meeting, WET will be able to share its decades-long experience on the field. Thanks to the presence of associations such as WET, the Water Forum is hoping to find concrete solutions.
As an associated partner, the NGO plays an active role in the 6th Forum, in order to enforce its engagement to raise children’s awareness on water protection. WET will facilitate two sessions (Global Water Education and Capacity Building and Awareness of Water Foot printing) during the Forum. Clearly, it will direct the debates, in order to lead the participants to a solution, or at least to the beginning of one. It will also provide its expertise during two committees, one with UN Habitat, Providing access to water for those in need, and the other with Korea Water Forum (which will organize the 2015 Forum), Develop a regional water education center in Korea. As an expert, WET has the responsibility to provide tools to the participants, to ensure that the "solution" they'll find will be achievable on the field. Along with this event, the project WET organizes an exhibition about its activities and courses of action. Every night, experts will be available to answer the questions of the public.
A long standing commitment
In preparation of the forum, the NGO held a global conference on the water education. 200 leaders of the education field, from 40 different countries gathered at the WET' Head Office (United-States) in September 2011, for this symposium prepared in collaboration with the UN.
For 20 years, Nestlé has supported the project WET. The NGO's ambition is closely related to the values defended by Nestle since its creation. This strong support is expressed every year during World Water Day. Every 22 of March, the company hosts children on its production sites and offers workshop facilitated by the employees. This year again, activities are organized to educate the future generations to the protection of this precious blue gold
